Oaxaca City at Night

We didn’t find out hostel till sometime after 5pm, so we didn’t get to go into the city until mid evening – but it was worth the wait. It’s dark by 7pm, and all the Christmas lights come on, adding to the already very christmassy atmosphere provided by the beds of poinsettias that cover the main zocalo. Thousands and thousands of them. The centre of the city is very picturesque with the colourful and ornate architecture that is so typical of the Spanish colonial towns of Mexico. Along with a huge cathedral, of course. We didn’t get to spend too long there because we were both very tired from the drive, but long enough to stuff down a Tlayuda (a ‘Mexican pizza’ that is made in Oaxaca) and have a good stroll round to take a few photos. And just long enough for Paola to manage to buy another pair of shoes…
