Paola is a big fan of Lila Downs, a Mexican/American singer who looks and dresses a little like Frida Kahlo. Her colleague from the school she works at, and English girl at the beginning of a year in Mexico, is also a big fan. I must confess that I, on the other hand, am not. She really doesn’t do much for me! But still, she was playing at the Teatro Metropolitan so along we all went.
I have to admit I was a little disappointed by the concert. Even though it’s not my thing, the sound set up was not terribly good. I’ve been to this place twice before to see Jamie Cullum and a Queen tribute and the acoustics were excellent. Cullum barely needed a microphone. There’s a balance between music and noise when the experts set up the speakers etc, and although I’m no expert, there was more noise than you’d want.
Still, Paola and amiga had a great time, and I managed to take a few photos and the short video below. There is another video I found on YouTube which gives a better idea of her voice, music and style – click here.
