Death Dressed Up

And the post title isn’t even a metaphor for something else entirely. Mexico has many ‘saints’. And given the important part that the skeleton plays in Mexican culture, it isn’t at all surprising that there is a Saint of Death – Santa Muerte.

But this is a very controversial saint – struck off the list of officially recognised saints by the government some time ago, largely because of accusations made against the cult members who follow her. It’s said they force members to worship death. The saint has also been taken up by drug barons as a patron. Not the best publicity. So, there was only one thing to do…
