Turtles in Sri Lanka

My little cash raising stunt for turtles isn’t the first time I have contributed to their conservation, I’ll have you know! I visited Sri Lanka a few years back and went to a turtle sanctuary on the south coast, somewhere near Mirissa Bay. I got the photo of the big one in a pool, and paid 500 rupees for the pleasure of releasing the babies and following them down the beach as they headed to sea. They collect eggs from nests so that they can keep them safe, and once hatched they give the little ones a week or two to build up some strength, so that more will survive.
