Volcán Popocatépetl

There is a pretty big volcano not far from Mexico City, Volcán Popocatépetl. It’s Mexico’s second highest peak, and it’s very active. It blew in 1994, and has been spewing forth stuff ever since. Yesterday it went into overdrive, blasting ash two miles into the atmosphere. I remember in 2003 when I was backpacking, a thin layer of ash coming down on the city. It’s pretty evil stuff – you wouldn’t want to breathe it in. It solidifies back into rock in your lungs. Doesn’t sound healthy. The photo below is from yesterday.
