Mexico isn’t really known for being a great car maker. Actually they aren’t known for making cars at all, although in recent years the Big 3 from north of the border have set up some assembly plants. Could that be all about to change though?
Mastretta started business in 1987 building peseros (microbuses) but have since dabbled with the idea of building their own car, churning out a few kit models. The US$50,000 (GBP 22,700) Mastretta MXT will be, I believe, the first ever all Mexican designed and built car to go into serial production.
It hit the motorshows in Europe this year, debuting in London and goes on sale next year. And it’s not a bad looker either! Although the colour should change – I’m not sure about that orange! Would Mexican Racing Green be considered a bit of a rip off?!
