Mexico City is full of wonderful museums, and Museo Rufin Tamayo is….not one of them. It’s not that it’s a bad museum. But it does score zero in one category that I rate highly – it does not allow photography inside. They do point out that this is due to the restrictions placed by the owners of the artwork inside, but I think that’s largely a cop out.
I can’t help but think that the space they have inside is hugely underutilized. It’s a very similar structure to the Auditorio Nacional – large concrete block. Plenty of space, which is nice. But they could make better use of it. They do have some good exhibitions now and again, but, but, but….. Still, they do get a thumbs up from me on one count. They have a bicycle stand out front.
