A visit to Real del Monte could not possibly be done without popping through Pachuca, capital of the state of Hidalgo. Famous not only for pastes, like Real del Monte, but also its barbacoa and grand old clock. The giant timepiece sits in the centre of the town square, and was reputedly built by the same company who constructed its considerably more famous and illustrious big brother in London – Big Ben. It’s certainly an imposing sight, and has been ticking away the seconds, minutes and hours since its inauguration in 1910. I grabbed a few photos during our fleeting visit before setting off for Real del Monte – click here.
