Mexico’s Golden Age

I stumbled across these photos on Flickr recently. A family/families in Mexico City in the 1950’s and 1960’s. I love vintage photos, particularly old colour snaps from the 50’s and 60’s. They have detail that black and white doesn’t bring out, and a vintage quality that is almost impossible to replicate. Though I have tried. I think these photos are too good not to share.

Some of the scenes are familiar. Torre Latinoamericana not so long after she was built. The Sears building. Belles Artes. The old Basilica. The Metropolitan Cathedral. You can see all these images on Jamesandtim’s Flickr page. The 1950’s set is here and there are a few sets of Mexico City and further afield in the 1960’s collection. Don’t people always look so much more respectable and upstanding in old photos?
