Someone mentioned the name of a film at work the other day. The Shawshank Redemption. I don’t think I’m breaking hot news of a hidden cinematic gem. But if you haven’t ever gotten around to watching this masterpiece, then make every effort to do so. It is truly one of the all time great films. It’s one of the few films I’ve ever watched that lived up to the book, written by Richard Bachman – aka Stephen King.
I won’t spoil the plot too much, just in case you really haven’t seen it. But I couldn’t help but have a new appreciation for a man’s dream to run away to a new home in Mexico. I am plotting. Daily. Zihuatanejo isn’t my destination. But I’d like to think we’ll meet on the journey. I’ll make the effort. One day I’ll maybe be sat on the beach typing away of my Zihuatanejo adventure, and remember this post. Will it seem as long ago that I wrote this as it seems as far away till I write that one?
Time for some tropical writing?

I had thought of adding to the post, by the way, but ran out of time. With the way of the economy in the UK, US and elsewhere, running away to Mexico might end up being the only realistic retirement plan for many of my generation. What you do for pleasure today, could be a necessity for other tomorrow.

It won’t be long, I’m sure. But it’ll be longer than I want.
