Pity me. The temperatures in DF are plummeting and are predicted to continue to do so over the weekend, plunging below all known records. Or so they say. Even more to the point, pity my turtles. They live outside and look distinctly unhappy. I’d bring them in, but they always get ill when I do that. I brought the two littlest ones in last week, and one is already sick.
In fact it’s so cold, I even went out and bought a little electric fan heater to take the chill off the air. I know that anyone back home in England will scoff at the thought of temperatures that are ‘nearly’ at freezing level, which in some parts of the UK would require temperatures to rise considerably. But hey, they choose to live in a frostbitten country. I came here to escape it!

yes I am suddenly feeling the need for central heating for the first time ever in Mexico – how long did you say this cold snap was going to last……………

Looking at the weather widgets out there….a wekk. But they are notoriously crap!

I do pity you although it’s below freezing and snowing constantly in Chicago. I’m equipped for the cold and you and your poor turtles aren’t! WHo would ever think you’d need central heating in Mexico? I hope it goes back to normal soon.

Me too. Especially for the sake of the turts….I don’t want them going into hibernation. That’s a bit risky for captive turts with no earth to bury themselves in.

Get a nice portable gas heater. It won´t bankrupt you as your electric bill may do when it arrives.

That is exactly what I’m worried about. We’ve used it very sparingly, just to take the edge off the cold.

Well, I imagine your houses are less geared up for cold weather as well. We spent the last 3 weeks without central heating and it was nowhere as near as cold inside the house as it used to get in our little Spanish villa in South Africa.

We’re geared up for the cold like an igloo is geared up for a 40 degree heatwave unfortunately!

I’d second Felipe’s comment about the gas heater. But if your oven is gas, you can use it and save the cost of the heater. Just prop the door open with a wooden spoon.

Where we are, sadly, well-equipped for extreme cold.

Fortunately things are finally improving today. It’s still chilly, but the morning has greeted us with clear blue skies and the first rays of sun in weeks!
