The Covid Den
This is from where Mrs P and I will watch the end of the world. Sat at home on our comfy sofa, watching the world fall to pieces on Sky News as we finish off the last of the popcorn. Mrs P has a few bottles of Dos Equis beer to toast the arrival of the apocalypse. If I’m feeling adventurous, perhaps I will add a drop of Jack Daniels to my coffee.
It’s a fairly minimalist set up. An unfussy cabinet to store things and hide away the cables. A 2016 model 55″ Samsung TV. A PiperNV alarm/camera sits on top of my Apple TV. The latest 4K model, of course. I do love my Apple TV. If you’re invested in the Apple ecosystem, it’s a great device.
But this photo could be a little more minimalist. I’d certainly like it to be a bit more minimalist. Have you spotted the problem? It’s right there, in front of you. Two remote controls. This could be resolved quite simply. Apple just need to put a TV tuner in the device along with a port to plug in the antennae. They won’t. But they should.
I bet Apple would produce a beautiful app for free-to-air TV. It could incorporate recording, or at least a pause function for live TV. And in a market where providing access to the greatest range of content is the goal, this would be hitting a home run. But as things stand, the only way to achieve what I want is with a Homerun. But that defeats the objective of minimalism.
