The Writing Is On The Wall

There are numerous barometers one could use to get a sense of how Trump will do in November. You could refer to polls. You could gauge the feelings of people you know. You could look at the state of the economy. You could, perhaps, even look to see whether the median IQ level in certain states has gone up or down in the last four years.

I’ll provide what I consider a pretty decent barometer. Trump’s greatest cheerleader in the UK media has always been Piers Morgan. He’s been a fan from the get go. He’s interviewed Trump, twice, treating the viewers to some of the most squirm-inducing, brown nosing ever seen on British television.

But even Piers Morgan has seen the light. Trump, needless to say, has unfollowed him. The bromance is over. There is no defense of a Trump presidency in 2020, beyond ‘white power’. The crisis of a generation is upon us, and the US must endure leadership which is competing with other far right demagogues for the title of ‘Worlds Worst’.

It must have been awkward for Piers to recognise what most people have known since well before 2016. But kudos to him for doing so. That sense of awkwardness is something that a lot of people who have been actively supporting the Russian Presidency will have to face. I suspect most of them will do so discreetly, at the ballot box.

But anyway, Piers Morgan is my barometer. If Piers Morgan represented a state, he’d represent Florida. Unless something remarkable happens, Trump is almost certain to lose in November. Quite badly. If you think he’s handled the coronavirus rather badly, wait to see how he handles defeat…
