Strawberry Season
Today, we drove to Lymington, a picturesque harbour town. The three ferries that carry cars and foot passengers to the Isle of Wight are moored up. All sailings have been cancelled, but we weren’t there for the ferries. Strawberry picking season has opened. Later than they planned, but the polytunnels with the first batch of fruit were ready for us today.
We’ll return late June or July, when the raspberries and cherries are ready. Despite doing all the manual labour ourselves, the punnets are pricey. But of course that is evened out by most pickers ‘one for the punnet, one for me’ method of picking.
One wonders what the cancellation of Wimbledon this year will do to strawberry prices…
