The Covid Swab Test

I had the Covid-19 swab test today. I have no symptoms, nor is there any reason to believe I have the virus. Nonetheless, I had to have the test – it wasn’t an optional event. More a requirement. A necessity. But that’s another story, one I may revisit at the end of the week. I can’t say I much looked forward to the test. I’d heard it described as a thoroughly unpleasant process. The thought of having something stuck right up my nose sounded pretty nasty.

It is in fact a very quick process and something I’d describe as mildly irritating at most. And even that is perhaps over egging it a bit. It tickles up the nose. It’s actually more irritating down the back of ones throat. But it’s over too quickly to become genuinely bothersome. When will I get the result? In all likelihood, I won’t. They will only be in touch should the test turn out to be positive.

The photograph was taken last month. It’s one of the ponds on Hampstead Heath, popular with those who enjoy a spot of cold water swimming. You will never find me stripping off for a swim here. I’m not a cold water person by a long shot. Although a cold water swim is probably a more pleasant experience than the novel coronavirus.

  1. I just found out yesterday that one of my cousins in Switzerland and her son tested positive for Covid. They are experiencing mild symptoms. Hopefully they will recover quickly with no ill effects.
