We’re used to having life our own way. We stay for one more drink. Have one more biscuit from the tin. Watch five minutes more television before bed. Turn one more page of the book we’re reading. The great promise of life is that there is always time for one more. Death allows no such privilege. There won’t be one more phone call. There’s won’t be one more hug. There won’t be one more goodbye. It’s the utter finality of death that breaks us.
It’s been a difficult few days. The healing process starts on day one. Every day, it gets a little better. But it will remain very difficult for some time to come. This is truest, of course, for Mrs P. We seek distractions, to clear the mind and ease the pain. Our regular brisk walk along the beach is a great distraction. The cold sea breeze blows away the anger and sadness. We can put aside the past and present for a while and talk about the future.
I look forward to the day we can jump on the train to London again. I look forward to walking in the capital’s parks in early spring. I look forward to visiting museums and dining in restaurants. I look forward to taking my seat at the theatre to watch a play. I look forward to the day we can board our flight and travel to warmer climes. I look forward to once again setting foot on Mexican soil. I look forward to the day we can round up all those Covid deniers, Trump supporters and Brexiters and throw their battered bodies into fire pits and…
Wait, did I type that last bit out loud? Damn, I’d been doing so well.
Democracy is a messy business. I do try to be nice, I do, but it is indeed getting harder . I’m reading more about the results of your nation leaving the EU-the freedom of movement was worth a packet it its self. What were they thinking.

Our departure from the EU is turning into exactly the sort of expensive and troublesome endeavour it was always going to be. But with fewer European migrants. Including the doctors and nurses we are rather short of right now.

I’ve gotten weary of people who think the “in your face” attitude is either macho or worthy of respect.
I try not to express it in public, but I don’t refrain from giving my opinion in a response, but sometimes I get angry enough to think that slip of the tongue you had.

I don’t mind people having a different point of view. I get on fine with many people who hold very different political views to my own. It’s the absolute insane BS that I’m sick of. The lies. The demonstrable bigotry.
Those folk can all just go do one.

You saved the best for last. And yes of course you said it out loud. Bravo!

I found one of the most difficult things to deal with after a death, as you wrote, “The great promise of life is that there is always time for one more. Death allows no such privilege.“ There’s an important lesson in that phrase for those that are left to ponder life, it’s to live life, even after a death…
I wondered if you were still taking your daily walks with Mrs P, you answered that question. I agree one of the best places to start the journey of healing, are long walks by the sea. It’s medicine for the soul…

Being out anywhere in nature is good medicine. The sea is particularly good. And yes, we keep walking. We have to close our rings on our Apple watches, after all…

Time and salt water, both great healers.
But I feel that you haven’t given full consideration to the firepits, which have both therapeutic and curative qualities.

It is always better when things are expressed. It lets the world better understand your character and that is probably safer when there are violent thoughts involved.

Anyone who knows me will know that I would never actually pile people into firepits.
Climate change is a serious problem that we are all need to address and start working towards a solution. Firepits4Trumpists.com is nothing to do with me.
Now, let’s discuss the merits of snake pits, lion dens and hippo pools….

It is great that you would not put people in firepits, well done you. But the shouts of “bravo” suggest other souls may be less restrained. I think Donald found this out when he commented on the protest outside the Capitol.
I’d agree that climate change is a huge emergency. This is why we need to rein in hopes that, post-pandemic, we can hop on planes to warmer climes. If we do, it will be warmer everywhere as we will find to our cost.
