Brexit 2.0

Brexit has happened. We are getting on for two years into the disaster. And it is a disaster. Sure, Covid and the Ukraine war have given the Brexiters somewhere to hide. But it’s very clear that there are no sunlit uplands. There are no real, tangible benefits. The sane Brexiters acknowledge that it hasn’t worked out. It’s been a disappointment. An increasing number of them will go one step further – it was a mistake.

The ideaologists? The Faragists? The Putinistas? They too acknowledge that Brexit isn’t working. But they insist it’s because we haven’t Brexited properly. It’s unfinished! We need Brexit 2.0. There are more organisations, treaties and internationals groups we should leave. Pre-referendum, they pointed to Norway as a shining beacon. Norwegians are happy! We rapidly approach the point where they will point to North Korea. Kim’s lot haven’t starved to death! Not all of them…!

It’s all beginning to sound like communism. Red flag waving commies have long dismissed the epic failures of their favoured system, insisting that communism was never actually done properly. Or that it hasn’t really even been tried yet. Brexit is the new communism. This is how it will be forever more. Unfinished business. This was predictable, if you understood from the beginning exactly what Brexit was:
