Most people who visit Coyoacan will be familiar with Frida Kahlo’s house, the Casa Azul, and the main centre which consists of two plazas, separated by a through road. There are numerous roads and lanes leading off the two plazas though, and they are well worth exploring. A little way down one of them, Avenida Miguel Hidalgo is the Popular Culture Museum – map no. 40.
It’s not a huge museum, but at 11 pesos for entry and with new exhibitions regularly introduced, it is worth a visit. At the moment there’s a display of traditional woven products. There’s also a fabulous Tree of Life at the entrance, and some pretty colourful murals on exterior walls in the courtyards. I’ve uploaded some photos to Flickr – click here.
