It’s pretty common in Mexico to see old ladies and very young girls dressed up in traditional garb. It’s colourful and different. And it’s not an uncommon sight even in Mexico City, the modern heartbeat of the country. But will the next generation of ladies, and sometimes gents, put on these old fashioned frocks when they reach that certain age? Looking around at the very chic and fashionable ladies in their teens, twenties and thirties, which I do very often indeed, I have my doubts.

These aren’t the two involved in the park rampage from your facebook profile are they?

Heheh! No, they were were nice old ladies just out for a walk. Besides…no ducks in Tlalpan!

About 20 years Carolina Herrera, the fashion designer, came up with these outfits. You don’t think these ladies picked those up from the Goodwill?

I had to look her up…not someone I’d heard of before. And, I suspect not!

I don’t think these women are Chilangos. More like ladies from the provinces.
After having spent a fair amount of time in DF as well as other parts of the country, it’s amazing how obvious the DFeños are outside their normal realm. As obvious as those from the countryside who happen to be in DF.

Where we sadly lack in colorful traditional raiment.

I should have added that the more colourful Mexicans in DF are from outside of the city. And you are right, DFeños are rather noticeable. Not quite as noticeable as myself though…
