Bournemouth Plane Park
Bournemouth has a small, regional airport. It’s mostly served by Ryanair, who fly the locals off to thirteen destinations in Europe, half of them in Spain. TUI use the airport for their package holidays, which amounts to a couple of flights a week. I think EasyJet has one route. Otherwise, most of the traffic from Bournemouth is made up of an assortment of privately owned light aircraft.
Every now and then, a British Airways flight will land here, if it’s been diverted from Heathrow or Gatwick for some reason. It’s a fairly rare occurrence though. But today there’s about a dozen BA jets and a Virgin Atlantic aircraft parked up at Bournemouth. Looks like the main London airports all ran out of space for their grounded fleets.
My photo is taken from the wrong end of the airport to give the full, close up picture. But it was easier, and safer, to pull over where I did rather than on the main road on the other side. It’s an eerie sight. It’s also a very sad sight.
