The Night Riviera
About 18 months ago I set off to London Paddington station to climb aboard the Night Riviera Sleeper. There’s two sleeper services in the UK. The Caledonian, which serves London to Scotland and the Night Riviera which connects London to the South West. I made this video at the time, but didn’t share it. I’d gotten rather bored of blogging. These days, blogging makes a good way to kill time.
Sleeper passengers are permitted to use the First Class lounge at Paddington, which is nice. It would be silly to say no to free coffee and biscuits. We also get to use the diner carriage, for either a late dinner or an early breakfast.
The trip itself was largely very forgettable. For a start, I slept for most of the trip, as is the idea. When I awoke in the morning, I found the world outside my window to be a very grey, wet and cloudy scene. It remained that way the entire day as I slowly made my way back from Penzance to Bournemouth, on normal train services.
But hey, it was a cheap trip thanks to staff discounts. I can now say I’ve done all the sleeper services going. I got to drink a lot of free coffee and eat a lot of free biscuits. I got to make this video. Oh, and I had a proper Cornish pasty in Cornwall.
