Photographic Investments – Part 1

I have suddenly been afforded a little free time to get back in touch with photography. My passion had dwindled. The number of occasions that I’ve taken my camera out with me have been few and far between over the last year or two. But it’s amazing what a little free time can do to put the spark back in to a hobby. And obviously, when I say a little free time, I actually mean endless hours of nothing to do.

I’ve not just invested time. I’ve invested a little money too. And by a little money, I do actually mean a little money. Not endless sums of cash. Just enough to make two worthy photographic investments. I purchased a two app bundle for my iPhone, Halide and Spectre. A couple of magazine reviews suggested Halide was really good despite a so-so 3.7 score on the App Store. The first reviewer on the App Store seems disappointed that the app doesn’t turn the iPhone into a DSLR. The dolt. I ignored the App Store reviews.

Spectre creates a long exposure effect. It actually worked pretty well. The image above is proof of the pudding. I think I’ll get some use out of this app, so I’m pleased with this investment. Halide itself is a perfectly usable alternative camera app. Is an alternative to the default Apple app necessary? Probably not.

My second investment? Stay tuned….
