Lockdown Day 30

It’s easy to lose count, isn’t it? We’ve been in lockdown for what seems like several years, but is in fact just a matter of weeks. But what day into lockdown is this for the UK? Boris gave his televised lockdown speech on the evening of March 23rd. So I suppose some people might regard that as Day 1.  But the day was almost done, wasn’t it. So surely lockdown started the following day on March 24th?

However, the Coronavirus Act that provided the legislation to enforce the lockdown didn’t gain Royal Assent until March 25th. So is that Day 1? Or, given that this also happened late in the day, is March 26th the real Day 1?

I’m going with March 24th. Even if the police didn’t yet have the official powers to punish naughty boys and girls who went over their one hour exercise limit or went to the shops to buy a pot of paint. On that day, we all knew where we were supposed to be and why.

That makes today Day 30 of lockdown. I guess the title of the post gave away where I stand on the issue. Here’s ten photos from yesterday, which marked Day 29.
