One has watched the best bits of the presidential debate. Trump v Biden. Rancour v Reason. Despotism v Decency. Did a winner emerge? It was such a shoddy debate, I’m not sure that there was a winner, per se. But there was a clear loser. I say this on the assumption that you use the same benchmarks as I, regarding morals, intellect, mental health and truth. It’s a bold assumption, given the state of the world. I’d like to think that you, dear reader, are of the decent sort. But this is the internet. So maybe, sadly, you are not. Maybe, sadly, my assumption falls over in your presence.
Perhaps I should use this as an opportunity, whilst you are here. It’s often said that one should engage with others of different viewpoints. Learn what makes them tick. See things from their perspective. Open my own mind to an alternative way of thinking. So in that spirit, I’d like to find out what inspires a true believer in Donald Trump. Here’s your opportunity to convince me of the error of my ways. You have my attention, and I’m interested in your politics. For today, at least, we can have our own debate.
So tell me. I’m curious. Were you a white supremacist before you fell under the spell of Trump? Or did he personally convince you to sign up to the club? Once he’s done with persons of a different colour, what’s your preferred next target? Jews, gays or the disabled? What’s the best things about having a president involved in Russian electoral interference? And finally, are you hoping for Trump to serve three terms or to simply be made president for life?
Or are you genuinely unable to see what is blindingly obvious and are completely unaware of what sort of person you’ve become?
The reason we had such a go around with the fascists last century was that at its basic level. it is a very attractive political and economic system. China and Russia both are operating under fascist systems currently. Not many are calling them for what they are but if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and talks like a duck-it’s a duck. A third of the US population seems to like the idea of being foot soldiers in a government and business benefiting type of rule. Full employment, a strong state, no political unrest, little street crime, those all sound good, but good enough to give away all of one’s civil rights? A bad bargain, I like to complain too much to even think about drinking the Koolaid.

Couldn’t agree more.
I have encountered what passes as the ‘intelligent’ case for Trump. It’s thoroughly depressing that reasonable folk have so cheerfully donned brown shirts and learned to goose-step in the belief that doing so will somehow preserve freedom.

Calling that a ‘debate’ is akin to calling a monkey with a typewriter an ‘author’, or calling Ted Nugent a ‘musician’. Donald Trump is to civil discussion what bleach is to bacteria – instant death. As a commenter on another forum said “Please, no more”. Listening to Trump rant is torture.

I feel as though some one else has said what I wanted to say. But I will add to this that I am a part of the minorities that Trump wants to get rid by sending them back where they came from. But we now outnumber the white minority. So no matter the bluster that comes from him, he is going down BIGGLEY! It will be minority rule comes 2021. Alas the Trumplodites will still be there!
