Work on replacing the rotting groins on Bournemouth beach is continuing. The cruise ships are still providing a backdrop to the bay. There were four of them today. There was a time when I’d be interested enough to look up their names. There was a time when photos of the cruise ships would be featured in the Bournemouth Echo on a daily basis. There was a time when the sight of these mammoth vessels filling up the horizon caused ones jaws to drop. Eventually, I lost interest in them as they simply became part of the coastal furniture, along with the sand, the sea and the sky.
The regulars on the Echo’s comments sections are split into two groups and argued incessantly and incomprehensibly about the ships. Should the Echo continue to feature them? Or stop featuring them? Eventually even they got bored of this, and went on to argue about whether or not people should wear masks. Next week they will argue about the new lockdown tiers. And make no mistake, they will eventually make it back to Brexit. Again. Now, truth be told, I enjoy getting into a good Brexit debate. But I leave this group well alone. They are all proper mentalists.
