Mrs P and I have just gotten back from a nice little short break to Zadar, in Croatia. And I’d just like say raise three cheers for the oft overlooked and underrated regional airport. We flew from Bournemouth, our local airport, and one we’ve used plenty of times. Ryanair has a range of mostly fixed schedules to Spain, Portugal and Poland. And they throw a few new destinations into the mix each year, to give us somewhere new to go.
It’s just a ten minute drive from home, and we get the additional bonus of free parking for our car – Mrs P works nearby and we leave it there. It is a two mile stroll back around the runway, but there’s usually a Beryl bike handy to turn a 45 minute walk into a 10 minute ride. Usually. But not on the return leg. Still, that gave me the opportunity to take the photo above, another Ryanair flight coming in to land.
We’d like to use Southampton Airport more, because we can walk straight off the train into the terminal. Alas, flight information is a mess and prices are usually quite high. I’d rather like to use the train more, and do without the flying at all. I have my eye on a trip, maybe soon. London to Paris on the Eurotunnel. I’ll walk across to the Gare de Lyon station for the new Frecciarossa service to Milan. I feel the need to sample their Executive class.
I’ll work out how to get back later. Any which way, but a major London airport…
but a major London airport…
The wags have been saying that London was in bad need of an expanded airport or even a new one for decades . They must have been prophetic.
