Every year I upload the best/my favourite photos of the year to my photography blog. I have two blogs, dintcha know? Essentially, I wanted to find a use for my Dot Com domain that required minimal effort. What better use than a blog that needs just one post per year? Click here to see what made the final list this time round.
I have a few thoughts/observations on my photography blog. Firstly, the blog broke when I attempted to post this years selection. It’s a self hosted strain of WordPress, not the common variety that this blog is published on. My efforts to repair the blog made things worse. Ultimately, I was forced to completely delete the installation and start again from scratch. It still astounds me just how fragile WordPress installations can be.
I store all my photos within Apple Photos, and on my iMac. I learned two things when trying to put right my blog breakdown. Firstly, that I hadn’t curated my selections for each year into convenient folders titled ‘Best of xx’, in case I should ever need to upload them again. Tsk. I’m putting that right now.
Secondly, the import of my photos into Apple Photos a couple of years ago didn’t go entirely smoothly. I’ve been meaning to dedicate an afternoon/week to removing the many duplicates, fixing out of album errors and other weird things. I’ll get to it soon.
The photo above didn’t make the final cut. I like it though. Why? I’ve no idea. Attraction of any type is always subjective. But make no mistake, apply some slightly unnatural light/colour settings and turn the shot to a weird angle and it immediately becomes more interesting. Ultimately, the twenty photos I chose for Twenty Twenty are just snaps that stood out when I browsed through. The restaurant, Zoila in London, was very good by the way.
There is one last thing to note. With previous years, I may have had one or two photos taken with a smart phone make it on to the list. But most years, all the photos came from a ‘proper camera’. But not this year. This year, eleven of the final twenty were taken by either my iPhone XS or 12. This is due not only to how much camera tech in phones has progressed, but also the processing software on my iPad.
eight from the top gets my vote.

The shot of the country road? Taken on my iPhone. I could be easily tempted to trade in all my camera gear for a small high end compact. But it’d be an expensive trade, so…

The photo of the rocks on the beach may be one of my favorites. Even though, I think I like most, because of the exquisite backgrounds.
I also like the photos you have included Mrs P… she’s a good model that adds to the scenes.
And a wonderful, and healthy New Year to you and yours!

I hope the new year treats you and yours well too. The beac( phot9 was a nice one. It was nicer still to be sitting there, in the summer sun…
