Good news. Summer has at last arrived. It has been an awfully long time coming. We were beginning to worry that we might not have a summer this year. The photo was taken this morning at my club, having just gone for a swim and spa session. That’s the first hole of the golf course, which looks glorious under a blue sky. I’ve been thinking about cancelling my gym and swim membership. Perhaps I shouldn’t. Perhaps I should hand over an extra £30 a month to have golf added to my account. I could buy some golfing bats off Facebook for about £50.
I suppose there will be greens fees too?

I think it’s just non members who have to fork out for green fees.

You should look into that if you are serious about inflicting a future golf widowhood on your beloved. I’m not a golfer but in this neck of the woods golfing is a big pastime and greens fees are paid each time you play. Being a member entitles you to play at almost any time whereas visiting playmates would be restricted to the not so premium playing times.
Looking at my local one which is not a prestigious one by any means but has a reciprocal arrangement with the other ones on the island. Membership is about two and a half grand a year or two hundred and fifteen a month. So greens fees may not be applicable in this instance. A pal o’mine who is an accountant is an avid player gets rid of his stress losing balls at a terrific rate. He has since moved to Vancouver.
Local greens fees here for the occasional player

It’s highly unlikely that I’ll follow through with this idea. Mrs P is safe from golfing widowhood. For now. Perhaps when I retire…

Golf is not as easy as it looks unless you don’t keep score. One drive goes out of sight and the next is twenty feet, chipping and putting are just as bad. We will not even think about the ‘rough’. It is a nice walk with friends.

I played for a few years before I went to Mexico. I measured my success not by how few shots I needed to get round, but by how few balls I needed.
It’s just a bit of fun added to a nice walk, like you say.

Here in Ohio, upon my return from Mexico I was greeted with dry and unseasonably hot weather. However, this weekend is Memorial Day, the unofficial beginning of summer, and, of course, the weather has turned unseasonably chilly and very rainy. The climate feels absolutely British!
