Someone or something upset the microbus drivers at Taxquena today. And in very Mexican style, they made their displeasure known by blocking off the main road outside the station at a very busy junction. Everyone else seemed to be videoing it with their cell phones, and as I haven’t much used my iPod Nano for video, I thought I’d give it a go! And so here it is, a glimpse into everyday life in Mexico City….protesters blocking off roads are not rare, by any stretch of the imagination!
I miss traffic blockades! We don’t get many of them here in Philadelphia. I live (as in, my permanent residence) 5 minutes away from Taxquena so the video brought back good memories! Did you find out what they were protesting against, Gary? I mean, have some mercy for these guys: the whole city wants to see them banish, and they must be aware of that by now.

No I don’t know what had upset them. There is a bus driver in the video that I’ve got to get a proper photo of one day. He’s absolutely enormous….barely fits in his bus! And he’s the spitting image of a Mexican Herman Munster! Check out 14 seconds into the film, wearing an orange shirt, walking away from a group…

Hahaha Mexican Herman Munster…he is the muscle of the Union.

He has never struck me as being the brains behind the union 🙂
I’m being unfair though. Never spoken to him, so he could be a Mensa member for all I know….

Sheesh! Why don’t they inconvenience someone in power rather than the hapless masses?
I seriously just don’t get this whole blocking traffic thing.
Thankfully I don’t ever have to drive in DF. It’s bad enough when the roads are not purposely blocked.

Where we have horrific traffic at rush hour, and whenever the police decide to block off the only arterial street in a neighborhood for some community event.

The people with power are all behind tall walls that block out the view of any protesters. That’s my theory anyway.
Still, not the most dramatic protest I’ve ever seen. We had a cracking one right outside my house a year or so back….
