This week’s flash back is of the Angel of Independence. Well, her head. Her original head. Which is rather hidden away in a small room in the Centro Historico in Mexico City. Badly damaged (ie squashed) when the angel was brought crashing down to earth in an earthquake in the 50’s, her head was removed and replaced with a shiny new one.

I had forgotten her earlier career as a Marie Antoinette stand in. The head has an almost Picasso look to it, doesn’t it?

I recently went to an exhibition of iconoclasm. This does have the right look to fit right in, even if the destructive deviant was Mother Nature. The destruction of art is art. Whether or not Picasso would agree with that, I do not know.

I love the smashed head. I’ve seen it a time or two, passing by, through the bars, but have never seen it up close. Someday.

It took me ages to find her, she’s pretty well hidden.
